Limited to 20 minutes on the treadmill because of a damaged left knee, Danny Fortson's only basketball activity Tuesday was a series of free throws after most of his teammates departed from a 2 1/2-hour practice at Furtado Center.

The Sonics forward said he feels alone and misunderstood, especially since there is a growing perception he is relatively healthy but does not want to play or is purposely taking himself out of games by committing fouls.

Fortson's desire was questioned privately by club officials and some players after he picked up two fouls in 26 seconds in Friday's loss to Miami. Fortson is listed as day-to-day with a bone bruise in his left knee, although he did not practice and has not played since Friday.

According to Fortson, an MRI exam taken Saturday revealed cartilage damage and he is unsure when he will return to action. He expressed unhappiness Tuesday about what he believes is apparent mistreatment by management and coaches.

"I don't bow out of no games," he said. "I may get fouls, I am not trying to get fouls, that's the way the game goes sometimes. But I don't appreciate somebody attacking my character and my competitiveness. There is a lot of negativity around here. It's a shame because I am taking anti-inflammatories just to be part of the team. It's clear to me now they don't want me around for whatever reason."
