Former Timberwolves shooting guard Fred Hoiberg worked out and met with the Pistons Wednesday.

Hoiberg has been out of basketball this season, recovering from open-heart surgery. He had a procedure last June to fix his aortic root.

He's exploring an NBA return, and the Pistons were the first team he visited. The meetings will continue today among Hoiberg, Saunders and Joe Dumars.

"We came and talked to him and he did a little shooting," Saunders said. "(Thursday) we're going to sit down and talk to him again and see where things are at. And then Joe and I will get together. He (Hoiberg) goes back and forth. I think there are only two teams he would play for if he was going to play as far as this year. He feels comfortable, as far as physically, that he would be able to do that. He's been cleared and everything else.

"We'll (Saunders and Dumars) will probably give it a good 24 hours or so to see where we're at."
