It will take a $220 million arena overhaul and a larger cut of the profits to the Sonics to keep the club at KeyArena and in Seattle, so the King County cities of Renton and Bellevue are lining up as potential suitors.

The Sonics are interested in an arena that is surrounded by retail, restaurant and hotel facilities.

Both cities' would-be locations offer "easy or easily attainable proximity to transportation corridors," Sonics VP Terry McLaughlin said. "They're both located fairly centrally to where our fan base is.

"There's a lot of things to recommend both of them," McLaughlin said.
