The Indiana Pacers announced Wednesday they have acquired forward/guard Marquis Daniels from Dallas in exchange for forward Austin Croshere.

The 6-6, 200-pound Daniels played three seasons with the Mavericks, averaging 9.3 points, 3.3 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game. He played collegiately at Auburn, was not drafted and signed by Dallas as a free agent in 2003.

?We?re very happy to have Marquis join our team,? said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird, ?He can play multiple positions and brings things to our team we didn?t have. He?s athletic, long and very skilled.?

?The trade for Marquis Daniels and our draft are steps toward changing the makeup of our team and the style available to us,? said Pacers CEO and President Donnie Walsh. ?It also puts Austin in a very good position at this point in his career.?

Croshere played nine seasons for the Pacers, averaging 7.5 ppg and 4.3 rpg. The team?s No. 1 draft pick in 1997, Croshere had his best season scoring in 1999-2000 when he averaged 10.3 ppg.

?Austin has been a really good player for us for a long time,? said Walsh. ?He has also been a good teammate and a good representative of the franchise. Obviously, we wish him well and hope this works out for all of us.?

Added Bird, ?We hate to see Austin go. He has been nothing but class in the nine years he has been here and he has been an important part of our success. He is someone I?m personally going to miss.?
