The NBA announced today that Wizards Guard Gilbert Arenas was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, December 11th through Sunday, December 17th, 2006.  This marks the second time this season and the sixth time in his career that Arenas has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.  

"It?s a great honor to win this award,? said Arenas.  ?My teammates and I are playing at high level right now.  We had three solid victories this week to show for it.?  

In leading Washington to a perfect 3-0 record last week, Arenas averaged 40.3 points per game and improved his season scoring average to 29.4 points per game; good for third in the NBA.  Arenas also averaged 6.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 3.0 steals per game, connected on 48.7 percent of his field goals attempts, and added 12 three-pointers and nine steals to his league-leading season totals.
