When Phil Jackson met with Lakers owner Jerry Buss and his son, Jim Buss who is also the team's vice president of player personnel, and General Manager Mitch Kupchak last month, they all agreed that Jackson's agent would sit down to talk about a contract extension.

Jackson's agent, Todd Musburger, met with Kupchak on Wednesday in Los Angeles to begin negotiations on a possible extension for Jackson.

Jackson is mulling over the contract.

Lakers public relations John Black said the talks were amiable.

"It was the beginning of talks," Black said. "They've agreed to meet again after the season ends."
