Morris Peterson may have played his best game of the season when the Toronto Raptors needed it most, but he still might not be back with the only NBA team he's even known.

Peterson scored nine points on four-of-five shooting while chasing down eight rebounds and providing determined defence against the New Jersey Nets' Vince Carter in the Raptors' Game 6, series-ending loss on Friday night.

But almost immediately the focus was on Peterson's future with the team. The seven-year veteran is a free agent and was at times lost in a crowded rotation of wing players.

"Overall Morris had a disappointing season," said Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo. "He would tell you that."

"But the way he finished and contributed last night [Friday] in a critical game, a game that meant a lot, I think that was a huge game for us last night and Morris was a big part of that. The question obviously is which Morris are we going to see if we sign him to a contract next year?"

"I'd like to think that Morris being the high character individual he is, he's going to learn from this experience whether it's for the Toronto Raptors or someone else."

Peterson said it was too soon for him to consider if he'd be wearing a different jersey for the first time in his career next season.
