Newsday's Ken Berger writes that with the NBA playoffs unfolding, it seems the Knicks may be only one player away from beating the best Eastern Conference teams.

The player Isiah Thomas should be chasing, according to Berger, is Kevin Garnett.  Berger proposes a principal offer of Channing Frye, Jamal Crawford, Jared Jeffries and Malik Rose.  Plus the Knicks would give the Timberwolves a first-round pick in this year's draft.  Thomas wouldn't and/or shouldn't hesitate to also include David Lee in the package to bring Garnett to the Big Apple.

The Pacers may be looking to shop Jermaine O'Neal who has connections to the Knicks' coaching staff.  Berger states that O'Neal should be a close second option as the Knicks search to put a star big next to center Eddy Curry.

What's the difference between O'Neal and Garnett?  Berger concludes that the former would get the Knicks into the playoffs, but the latter would allow them to get somewhere once they're in.
