Heat forward Wayne Simien, a first-round draft pick in 2005 who played only eight games last season, has had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, which will keep him from joining Miami's summer league team.

Simien, who played in 43 games as a rookie, missed the 2006 summer league because of salmonella, a bacterial condition that also caused him to miss most of the regular season.

The Heat on Thursday gave no timetable for Simien's return from the clean-up procedure performed Tuesday. But he is expected to be ready for training camp in October.
