Sean Williams had more fouls than rebounds and blocks combined in last week's Orlando summer league. Some NBA talent evaluators were unimpressed with Williams. But the Nets aren't panicking after five summer league games.

They figured Williams, who was thrown off the Boston College team in January for multiple rules violations, would encounter growing pains. The Nets are encouraged that his point total increased each game from two in his first to 17 in the finale. But they admit the athletic 6-foot-9 forward needs work.

"He needs a lot of experience," team president Rod Thorn said. "He needs to play. He needs to work on his body. So there are a lot of areas he needs to improve."

"He's just green on both ends," coach Lawrence Frank added. "But he's got unbelievable athletic gifts. As long as he's willing to have big eyes, big ears and give a big effort, then he'll make strides."
