Ersan Ilyasova, a second-round draft pick of the Bucks in 2005, decided he could get more playing time by leaving the NBA and joining powerful Spanish club Barcelona, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting.

But Bucks general manager Larry Harris still was disappointed with the 20-year-old Turkish international's decision.

"It's unfortunate he decided to go to Europe," Harris said on Thursday. "We had every intention of re-signing him, and he chose to go to Europe. If he does play significant time, it's certainly a win-win for him and for us. But we thought he could have a role on this (Bucks) team."

The Bucks made a qualifying offer to Ilyasova in June, allowing them to retain his NBA rights if or when he decides to return.

Ilyasova agreed to a two-year contract worth approximately $5 million, when bonuses are included, according to agent Max Ergul. The Barcelona contract does not contain a buyout clause, making it easier for Ilyasova to return to the NBA when he is ready.

"The Bucks gave first-class treatment to Ersan, and we would never hesitate to put another player here," Ergul said. "He really wants to come back to Milwaukee as a better player."
