he Boston Celtics? Paul Pierce and the Portland Trail Blazers? Brandon Roy today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 10 through Sunday, Dec. 16.

Pierce led the Celtics to a 3-0 week, helping Boston extend its winning streak to nine games. At 20-2, the Celtics own the NBA?s best record and have tied the franchise record for best start through 22 games, first achieved during the 1963-64 season. Pierce averaged 25.3 points and 5.0 rebounds. The ninth-year pro connected on 24-of-27 (.888) free throws including a nine-of-nine effort during Boston?s 104-82 win over the Bucks on Dec. 14.

Roy, who wins his second consecutive Player of the Week Award, led the Trail Blazers to a 4-0 week, averaging 23.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.0 steals. Portland is in the midst of a Western Conference-best seven-game winning streak. Roy?s signature performance came in a Dec. 16 win over the Nuggets as the second-year guard scored 26 points on 11 field goals made and dished out 11 assists (both tied career highs).
