Certainly many of you are already familiar with my Floor Impact Counter and Reina Value. (Please click here to familiarize yourself with the systems.)

I also use the FIC to calculate team totals, both by game and for the season.  The per game team and player FIC is now included in our box scores, and you can click here for an example.

In order to determine my team rankings, I have calculated the difference between a team's own FIC per game and their opponents' FIC for the entire season.  Boston is easily the leading team with a 24.3 differential.

The number in parenthesis is the difference between their current FIC differential and their differential from last season which goes a long way in determining how significantly a team has improved or declined.

2007-2008 Rankings (through Jan. 21st's games)

1. Boston Celtics: 24.3 (33.4)

Not surprisingly and quite easily, the Celtics have had the greatest turnaround in all of basketball.  Opposing teams average a meager FIC of 66.6 per game.

2. Phoenix Suns: 17.8 (1.5)

Despite all the conversations that the Suns aren?t as good as they have been in the past, they actually have been a better club this season.  Much of which has to do with Grant Hill?s 14.2 per 40 FIC.

3. Detroit Pistons: 15.4 (6.4)

Chauncey Billups has improved his per 40 FIC two whole points since last season while Richard Hamilton (51), Rasheed Wallace (59), TayShaun Prince, (73) and Antonio McDyess (77) are in the top 100.

4. Los Angeles Lakers: 11.9 (12.5)

The Lakers will look to stay afloat without Andrew Bynum?s 21.0 per 40 FIC for another seven weeks.  Jordan Farmar?s per 40 FIC of 14.0 is second amongst NBA sophomores only to Brandon Roy.

5. Utah Jazz: 10.9 (2.3)

Speaking of NBA sophomores, Ronnie Brewer and Paul Millsap are third and sixth respectively in season FIC totals amongst all second-year players.
