Raptors point guard Jose Calderon said on Tuesday that he has reached an agreement with the team on a new contract, according to ESPN.com.

"Early this morning, through my agents, I reached a preliminary agreement with the Toronto Raptors," Calderon said on his Web site. "I want to thank [Raptors president and general manager] Bryan Colangelo, [assistant GM] Maurizio Gherardini, [coach] Sam Mitchell and all of the Raptors family for the confidence that they have placed in me."

He did not provide details regarding the contract.

Toronto cleared the way for Calderon to become their permanent starter when they traded T.J. Ford to Indiana for Jermaine O'Neal last week.

Any agreements reached between players and teams cannot become official until July 9.
