The Grizzlies' efforts to land a power forward, first Josh Smith and then Zach Randolph, have come up empty, but GM Chris Wallace isn't panicking.

"Things start opening up a little more after teams get into the preseason schedule and teams get more of a barometer of what they actually have," Wallace said.

"We don't have a perfectly proportioned team right now in terms of the roster. We still have needs.

"We're in a talent-acquisition mode until we get to where we're a powerhouse team. When you're in a talent-acquisition mode there are going to be times when you have too many guards, too many centers or whatever. But that's part of the process in acquiring talent."

Wallace said any potential Randolph deal is dead.

"It's not going to happen at this point in time," Wallace said. "I never rule out the future. Who knows where all parties go down the road? But right now, I don't expect anything to happen."
