Quentin Richardson led the Knicks with 28 points and 9 rebounds, and Zach Randolph added 15 points and 13 boards of his own in the loss. Rookie Danilo Gallinari did not play for the Knicks, who attempted a team-record 36 shots from downtown. Michael Redd left the game in the third quarter with a sprained ankle.

Al Jefferson starred for Minnesota with 24 points and 13 rebounds while rookie Kevin Love added 4 points and 4 boards in the loss. Neither team held a lead of more than nine points, with Minnesota leading 65-56 midway through the third quarter.
