Suns general manager Steve Kerr indicated on Monday that he might be looking to keep All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire, and two sources concurred with Kerr's comments.

"I got the impression today that [the Suns] are standing pat," said one source said.

Phoenix was underwhelmed by the offers they received for Stoudemire, and are prepared to keep the roster as is to give new coach Alvin Gentry a chance to turn the team around.

Said another source close to the situation: "That is very accurate."

The Bulls were considered the likely destination for Stoudemire but the Suns apparently did not value Tyrus Thomas as much as some believed.

The Suns are expected to continue making Shaquille O'Neal available before the trade deadline Thursday but they are privately pessimistic about the chances of moving the $21 million remaining on his contract next season.  The Suns are about $5 million over the luxury tax threshold this season.

Entering Tuesday's action, the Suns are 28-23, just a game behind the Jazz for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
