Phoenix general manager Steve Kerr says that he plans to remain in charge of the team, and it is sounding more and more like he wants coach Alvin Gentry to remain on the job as well.

"We have to sort through some things with our team," Kerr said. "We're a team in transition. Alvin has established himself here and earned the respect of not just the players but a lot of people in the organization. The prospects look really good with him being our coach next year."

The Suns are likely to go down in history as one of the best teams in NBA history not to make the playoffs. Since the 16-team format was implemented 25 years ago, only five teams have won 43 games and missed the postseason.

"We're just scrapping to get in and that's very disappointing," Kerr said. "Alvin couldn't have done a better job than what he's done the last month. He's been phenomenal."
