Talks between the Grizzlies and free-agent guard Allen Iverson were described as "dead" by a pair of sources on Thursday.

Memphis offered Iverson a one-year deal worth $5 million under the stipulation that he would agree to come off the bench.

However, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Grizzlies haven't heard from Iverson's camp since early July.

"Why would a future Hall of Famer come off the bench for a team that won't make the playoffs?" one Western Conference executive said.

Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley liked the idea of adding Iverson, but a number of people within the organization were worried about the impression he'd have on the team's young guards.
