Jason Williams became an unrestricted free agent on Friday, when the rest of the league was informed that the Knicks did not offer the point guard a contract.

New York had obtained exclusive negotiating rights with the veteran for five business days.

Agent Dan Tobin, who represents Williams, told ESPN.com that he expected talks with the Knicks to extend beyond the deadline.

It was reported earlier this week that the Grizzlies and Magic could be interested in signing Williams as well, and the Knicks have been linked to Jamaal Tinsley and Jerry Stackhouse as they search for a veteran to fill out their roster.
