The Celtics waived Lester Hudson on Wednesday afternoon before his $167,782 contract became guaranteed.

Boston expected Hudson to play behind starting point guard Rajon Rondo, but he simply wasn't ready.

"He was not getting an opportunity," Celtics president Danny Ainge said. "The majority of the backup point guard minutes have gone to Eddie House the last three years. Even when we brought in Sam Cassell, Eddie was still getting the majority of minutes. And last year, when we brought in [Stephon] Marbury, Eddie got the majority of the minutes, especially in the playoffs."

Even though Hudson didn't get much of a chance in Boston, the Celtics tried to find him a home before waiving him.

"Lester hasn't gotten a chance to play. We were making an effort up to the deadline to make a deal and try to find Lester a home so he could continue to be paid," Ainge added. "That's why he went with us [to Miami]. I was talking to him and his agent, and he was aware of what we were doing and of the possibilities that existed, and we were trying to do all we could up to the deadline."

Hudson was averaging just 1.4 points and 0.5 assists in limited minutes with the Celtics.
