Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor says that it isn't a guarantee that the team will get under the luxury-tax threshold before the end of the season.

There have been reports that Utah will work hard to get under the NBA's $69.92 million luxury-tax threshold by the Feb. 18 trade deadline.

"I don't think we would get under the tax at all costs," O'Connor said.

The Jazz have $74.7 million in remaining full-season salary commitments. They still project to pay $4.8 million in tax penalties at season's end even after trading rookie guard Eric Maynor and the contract of Matt Harpring to Oklahoma City last month.

"I think we've heard this luxury-tax stuff long enough," O'Connor said. "We're trying to win games and we're committed to trying to win games. We made a move that I think saved us a great deal of money and going forward we're going to try and win games."
