The volume of playoff games played has perhaps never had as much significance as the 2010 edition, since each game means more BRI for the 09-10 season and therefore a higher potential salary cap.

The second round of the 2010 Playoffs, however, has been brutally abbreviated. The Lakers, Suns and Magic all swiftly swept their opponents, leaving the Cavaliers and Celtics as the only teams to enter 'if necessary' land.

Regardless of what happens in Game 6 between Cleveland and Boston, the first two rounds of the playoffs will have the fewest number of games since the NBA expanded to the best of seven first round.

The first two rounds of the 2010 NBA Playoffs will be either 62 or 63 games long, down from the average of 67.7 in the seven seasons from 2003 to 2009. The previous low was 64 during the 2007 Playoffs.

In order to reach the average for the total games of the playoffs (84.7), the Cavaliers/Celtics series will need to go to seven games, each Conference Finals series will need to go to seven games and the Finals will need to go to seven games.

The previous low was in 2007 when just 79 playoff games were played, culminating in San Antonio's four-game sweep of the Cavaliers.
