A person with ties to LeBron James has told the New York Post that the Nets have moved past the Knicks in the race to land the superstar.

The source added that he believes James will leave Cleveland.

"If it wasn't for Newark for two years, they [the Nets] would probably be the winner," the person said. "But they probably have surpassed the Knicks. I think the Knicks hurt themselves with the draft."

The Nets and Knicks are expected to be the first two teams James will meet with when he officially hits the market on Thursday at midnight.
