Mark Warkentien's contract with the Knicks as their director of pro personnel expires on July 1, according to a team source.

New York officially hired Warkentien on Saturday. He'll mainly scout college players on the West Coast.

The length of his contract doesn't mean he won't be retained, but it likely rules him out as a potential successor to New York president Donnie Walsh.

Warkentien may also be leaving his options open should other jobs become available.
