Sophomore center Greg Smith will leave Fresno State to declare for the NBA.

Smith's uncle Stephen Shelley said that the move was 'official' and that he wouldn't test the waters.

Smith was a second-team All-Western Athletic Conference pick after finishing second on the Fresno State men's basketball team in scoring at 11.7 points per game and first in rebounds, at 8.1 per game.

The job status of head coach Steve Cleveland was a factor.

"I would have loved to have Cleveland as a coach. He taught me to be mature and gave me responsibilities," Smith said. "He helped me in many ways grow up as an 18-, 19-year-old freshman. I have to give a lot of credit to him."

Smith said he's very confident he can play at the NBA level: "I know what I'm capable of and I know I'm ready to play against that talent."

Smith was the WAC Freshman of the Year in 2009-10.
