Bill Self doesn’t expect Kansas to be named a No. 1 seed when the tournament field is announced Sunday.

“We hurt ourselves tonight if our goal was to be a one seed,” said Self after the Jayhawks were defeated by No. 11 Baylor, 81-72 in in the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament. “I guess it might still happen, but there would have to be some people lose for that to be the case.”

Self is of the belief that advancing through the NCAA tournament is more about matchups than seeding.

“When I was at Tulsa,” he said, “I think we were a seven seed and I was like, ‘How can we be a seven? God, we’re better than that.’ But it worked out pretty good for us. Sometimes when we’ve been a one, match ups don’t work that well either. I think it’s more about match ups than seed line.”
