Mason Plumlee is torn about whether to leave Duke with one season of eligibility remaining and declare for the draft.

Plumlee’s father, Perky Plumlee, said his son is “agonizing” over the decision.

“Maybe for some kids it’s so clear cut it’s easy,” the elder Plumlee said. “But it’s not an easy decision for Mason. For some kids who don’t want to go to school or don’t do well in school or don’t like school, they would think about it for about two seconds. He’s getting favorable input. He’s well regarded by NBA scouts. He actually is at a point where he would have a bright future with either direction.”

Perky Plumlee said today’s NCAA deadline won’t have any impact on Mason.

“That date is meaningless to us,” Perky Plumlee said. “Mason’s got a very difficult decision to make. The fact that the NBA and NCAA got their rules crossed up, that’s not our fault. It’s not our responsibility. As far as I’m concerned, he has until the 29th to make his decision. He has my blessing to take all the time he needs.”
