The Memphis Grizzlies have reached agreement to promote David Joerger from assistant to head coach, according to sources.

Joerger has spent the past six seasons as assistant for the Grizzlies and will replace Lionel Hollins.

Prior to the 2010-11 season, Joerger was tasked by Hollins to oversee the Grizzlies' defense, which was ranked 25th in efficiency in 2009-10.

The Grizzlies also formally interviewed Alvin Gentry and Ed Pinckney.
