DeMarcus Cousins is on track to have his contract extended with the Sacramento Kings before the Oct. 31 deadline for 2010 first round picks, according to sources.

Cousins could have a deal wrapped up before the Kings open training camp next week.

Contract negotiations are under way and Pete D'Alessandro is scheduled to return to Sacramento early this week to resume talks.

Getting a max contract is not a foregone conclusion for the controversial Cousins, however. He has averaged 16.3 points and 9.8 rebounds in his career but has also led or been near the league lead in fouls, and his volatility has resulted in multiple suspensions.
