MILWAUKEE – After being released by the Toronto Raptors on Monday, D.J. Augustin swiftly received strong attention from Chicago, and the veteran guard told RealGM he declined interest from two other NBA teams to sign with the Bulls.

“My agent and I both felt this would be the best opportunity,” Augustin said. “I just couldn’t pass it up.”

Augustin went scoreless in his debut with the Bulls in Friday night’s 91-90 win over the Bucks, but had one assist and one steal in his 12 minutes of action. The 26-year-old former lottery pick was the only reserve point guard used by Tom Thibodeau on Friday and he could receive significant minutes backing up Kirk Hinrich.

“The Bulls are a great organization, with great history,” Augustin said. “It’s a championship organization and something I couldn’t pass up being a part of.

“Playing against the Bulls, I always hated it. Because like [Friday], we grind hard, fight until the end and play defense. That’s the type of team that always wins.”
