The Miami Heat will apply to the NBA for a disabled-player exception to help replace Josh McRoberts, who is expected to be out for the remainder of season with a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Under NBA rules, if McRoberts' injury is deemed by an independent NBA physician to be deemed season ending, the Heat then would receive half of McRoberts' 2014-15 salary for a replacement player, either through a trade or free-agent signing.

A $2.65 million amount can only be used in a trade for a player in the final year of his contract or in a one-year offer to a free agent.
