As Alec Brown enters Phoenix’s D-League affiliate, the Suns are expected to discuss an NBA deal with their 2014 second-round draft pick to join the 2015-16 roster, a league source told RealGM.

Brown, a rare sharpshooter at 7-foot-1, has been rehabilitating the dislocated left shoulder that he suffered in last July’s Las Vegas summer league. He appeared in five games for the Suns’ summer league entry.

The Suns have remained high on Brown, monitoring his progress and entrance into the Bakersfield Jam of the D-League. He’ll join Bakersfield’s roster next week.

As a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Brown averaged 15.4 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 42 percent from three-point range. He went to the Suns with the 50th overall draft pick.
