Rajon Rondo had planned on signing with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent in the summer when it became clear that he no longer had a future with the Boston Celtics, according to sources.

Rondo expected a maximum contract to be signed.

When the Dallas Mavericks traded for Rondo, he was open to re-signing with the franchise. Rondo reportedly hasn't given up on that possibility despite the issues that have arisen, but sources say he won't return if Rick Carlisle is retained as head coach.

With how poorly Rondo has played since going to the Mavericks and since his ACL injury, a maximum contract is almost uncertain to be offered to him.
