David Griffin expects Tristan Thompson to report to camp with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.

Thompson has until midnight EST on Thursday to accept the Cavaliers' $7 million qualifying offer, reject it to stay a restricted free agent or agree upon an extension.

"We fully expect that tomorrow he will be here in some form or fashion," Griffin said during NBA TV's broadcast of Thursday's training camp. "We're hopeful that he wants to move forward with his teammates in the same way that we want to have Tristan here. If we can come to some agreement, then we will."

Thompson and the Cavaliers have been locked in a stalemate for several weeks.

If Thompson accepts the qualifying offer, he will become an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

Thompson would be considered a holdout if he fails to sign the qualifying offer.

Anderson Varejao was in a similar scenario in 2007 and the dialogue continued until Dec. 4.

"I had to do it," Varejao said Thursday following practice. "I had to do it back then because I felt like I was disrespected with the offer they offered me."
