The Cleveland Cavaliers will have their tax bill drop by an estimated 35 percent even after they re-sign J.R. Smith.

The Cavaliers paid $54 million in luxury tax last season, $34 million more than the next highest team. The figure for the 16-17 season will drop to the $35 million range even after accounting for re-signing Smith.

The NBA's luxury tax threshold increased this season to $113.3 million due to the rising cap.

Last season, when the luxury-tax threshold was $84.7 million.

The Cavaliers spent approximately $160 million last season in salary and taxes combined.
