Isaiah Thomas will not need to undergo offseason hip surgery.

Thomas missed the end of the Boston Celtics' playoff run due to the hip injury.

"Isaiah is making good progress," Danny Ainge said. "He's out on the court; he's shooting. He's full-speed ahead on the stationary bike and working in the swimming pool. He's progressing nicely."

Thomas is expected to be back in time for training camp.

Thomas met with a number of hip specialists, but needed to wait for the swelling to subside before deciding on a course of recovery.

Thomas will be an unrestricted free agent in 2018.
