The New York Knicks have interest in trading for Elfrid Payton.

Scott Perry was with the Orlando Magic when the franchise drafted Payton.

Payton will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

According to the source, Perry still believes in the 6-foot-4 Payton as a potentially solid defender, though advanced metrics show he’s subpar.

The Knicks and Magic have had preliminary talks on Payton while also expanding the discussions to include Bismack Biyombo and Joakim Noah. Biyombo has one fewer season on his deal, which would likely force the Knicks to include an additional asset.
