Dwight Howard returned to Washington to receive a pain-relief injection for his lower back on Monday.

Howard suffered a setback on Saturday when participating in a light workout.

Howard did not take contact in the workout, but he woke up Sunday feeling soreness. Howard could miss the start of the regular season.

“He’s going to get a pain-relieving injection and hopefully early next week, he’ll be back on the court and be ready to play,” Scott Brooks said. “I don’t know what that means for the first game, but we’re just gonna take it day by day.”
