The Dallas Mavericks hope they can reconcile their situation with Dennis Smith Jr. and insist they won't trade him unless they get satisfactory value in return.

The Mavericks have made Smith available in trade throughout the season.

"Plan A is still to fix this," a team source told ESPN.

Smith recently expressed a hope for a trade due to frustrations over his role. Smith dominated the ball as a rookie last season but the addition of Luka Modric has led to a shift in the franchise and the offense.

Several team sources downplayed the friction between Smith and Rick Carlisle.
