Eric Adams, mayor-elect of New York City, said he doesn't plan to change the existing COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

The mandates currently prohibit Kyrie Irving from playing in home games due to his choice not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

“New York City’s not going to change their rule,” Adams said. “And again, it’s up to the NBA and Kyrie to come to a full understanding on how to keep him on the Nets and continue to look after all our athletes that are coming here.”

The Nets decided as a team not to allow Irving to play in road games since he cannot play in home games.

“This is something that the NBA – if they want to perform in the city – this is the agreement they made,” Adams said on CNN. “So I believe it’s up to the NBA and Kyrie to come to an understanding about how they want to get through this. And I believe they can come to a resolution.”

Adams said he respects Irving’s personal choice.

“It’s up to Kyrie,” Adams told Blitzer. “That is his determination. I don’t wanna dictate for him. It’s his body, he has to make that determination on what he wants to do.”
