It's easy enough for our entire staff of writers to churn out columns touting their picks for this year's NBA All-Star teams, but we figured that putting our minds together and voting on a 'RealGM All-Star team' would be a more efficient use of your time.
Obviously, the starting five for each conference has already been announced, so rather than pretty much duplicate the fan voting, we're sticking strictly to the seven players that deserve to grace the bench on each side.
That means staff members weren't allowed to vote for guys like Chris Paul, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, or Dwight Howard because they are already in!
Here are the voters:
--Christopher Reina, Executive Editor
--Andrew Perna, Deputy Editor
--Jason M. Williams, Columnist
--Tyler Sherkin, Columnist
--Matthew Gordon, Columnist
--Jarrod Rudolph, Columnist
--Charles Modiano, Columnist
--Patrick J. Austin, Contributor
--Jon Nichols, Contributor
--Brandon Hoffman, Contributor
--Howard Mass, Staff Writer
--Louis Roxin, Staff Writer
--Jeff Duncan, RealGM Radio
In order to follow the traditional All-Star format, we asked that each voter submit a ballot with two guards, two forwards, one center, and two add-on players. The results were interesting, to say the least.
Here are some interesting tidbits from the voting:
--Nineteen different players received votes in the Eastern Conference while twenty were highlighted in the West.
--Five players from the Western Conference received just one vote while only two players from the East were picked by just one member of the staff.
--The Celtics, Jazz, Magic, Mavericks, and Nuggets all had three players named on the ballots.
--Eight of the nineteen players who received votes in the East play on teams with a losing record, but just four players from the West on losing clubs were featured on the ballots.
Without further ado, here is RealGM's 2009 NBA All-Star Reserve Team:
