Tim Povtak of the Orlando Sentinel reports: There is more to the free-agent plans of the Orlando Magic than just trying to sign center Antonio Davis.
When free agency began today at 12:01 a.m., the Magic, under salary-cap rules, had only a $4.5 million exception and a $1.2 million exception to offer free agents. Luring Davis would require either clearing $7 to $10 million of salary-cap space by trading current players for future draft picks, or arranging a sign-and-trade deal that probably would require the involvement of a third team.
Povtak also writes about some rumored trades and some other alternatives if Orlando can't sign Davis.
