Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports that the tear in Maurice Taylor's Achilles Tendon was a very bad one (torn on both ends) and he will be out for 10 to 12 months. That leaves the Rockets looking for ways to fill the void.
With the injury as bad as it is, the Rockets are more likely to qualify for the disabled-player exception, which would give them $3.25 million to spend on a free agent. They will know whether they get it within 30 days. Possible big men include: Marc Jackson, Jelani McCoy, Daniel Santiago and Anthony Mason. GM Carroll Dawson said they were looking for one more roster addition, but they didn't know who.
Another option would be to stand pat. Dawson doesn't think the Rockets are too thin, with 2 centers, 2 power forwards and 3 small forwards. He thinks their versatility will cover for the loss.
Finally, the stalemate continues with Moochie Norris who wants more money than the Rockets want to pay. However, he does want to be a Rocket and has not spoken with any other teams.
