It took some 14 months to materialize, but the combination of Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill finally hit the floor together Tuesday night and proceeded to send shock waves through the rest of the NBA.
Not only did the Orlando Magic duo batter Toronto's Vince Carter silly, they also showed how the Magic's offense could become downright unstoppable this season.
Granted it was just one game, but the possibilities appear to be endless with the two slashers on the floor together. If McGrady wasn't burying jumpers or slashing for dunks, it was Hill exploding past Carter for easy shots or assists to Patrick Ewing and Horace Grant. The way they played together and played off one another was a thing of beauty.
"That was a lot of fun the way we worked so well together," said McGrady, whose Magic play again Friday night in Indiana. "This is what we hoped to do last season but it didn't happen because of Grant's injury. But with Grant back, it's gonna be great for not only me, but also this team and this organization."
NBA teams don't dole out $186 million for two players without dreaming big. Clearly, the Magic feel the pairing of the emerging McGrady and a healthy Hill will be enough to ultimately get the franchise back to the NBA Finals.
