The Miami Heat reportedly are in the market for a starting-quality small forward, perhaps a swingman who can also play some shooting guard.
Jazz veteran Bryon Russell sure sounds like he'd fit the bill. And the Heat have asked about the availability of Russell, whose contract expires after this season.
Jazz basketball operations vice president Kevin O'Connor, however, makes it sound as if Russell ? a sometimes starter who has come off the bench in Utah's first two games this season ? isn't going anywhere any time soon.
"There were inquiries about Bryon from a lot of teams, and for the right reasons," O'Connor said. "They like him as a player."
But, O'Connor added, "we never, never, talked about Bryon in a deal (to the point) where we sat down and said, 'Would you do this?' . . . Certainly everybody's thought Bryon is a big part of this team, and we'd never entertain the idea of trading him."
