Giving up 67 first-half points and hitting just 38 percent of their field goal attempts, the Pacers reached the inevitable conclusion of a 113-100 defeat to Toronto at Air Canada Centre.

Aside from Jermaine O'Neal -- who sat nearly as much as he played because of foul trouble -- and Travis Best, the Pacers regulars combined to hit 21-of-58 shots.

The Pacers had slightly better success defending Vince Carter, "holding" him to 28 points. He averaged 34.8 against them last season. But they were unable to contain Antonio Davis.

The former Pacer has moved back to his original NBA position, power forward, with the arrival of Hakeem Olajuwon this season. But with Olajuwon playing just 14 minutes Sunday because of foul trouble and ineffectiveness, Davis slid back to center, where he had played the past two seasons.

It obviously agreed with him, as he hit all five first-half shots and added seven second-half free throws to finish with 21 points.
