Keith Van Horn had the look. He was coming off two games, that for him, were, what's the word? Oh, right, stinky. He knew it. Early in the season or not, he was determined to change.

"It's early still. But I feel very confident about this and that's all I'm focused on. Very confident," Van Horn claimed before the Nets played Charlotte Saturday.

Then he showed why his confidence was soaring. Running the court and spotting up, Van Horn was a different player than he had been in the two previous games where he managed single-digit scoring numbers. But against Charlotte, there was the Van Horn who was to benefit from Jason Kidd. Van Horn turned in a complete effort: 28 points, nine rebounds and four assists. He was masterful on threes: 5-of-8 to run his four-game mark to 11-of-20 (.550). So who was that guy?
