Jeff Van Gundy spent six hours on an airplane yesterday pondering the fate of his $100 million shooting guard and aging point guard.

There may be drastic changes to the New York Knicks' starting lineup even before Marcus Camby returns, which isn't expected to happen before Saturday.

Van Gundy could revamp his rotation as early as today against the Los Angeles Clippers, a team whose size and quickness will create more headaches for the coach.

"I don't know what to expect," Allan Houston said after the Knicks' demoralizing 26-point loss to the New Jersey Nets on Friday left their record at 4-6. "I know we have to mentally change as players. But I really don't know what to expect from Jeff."

Van Gundy's actions and words hinted that a lineup change could be in order. After seeing his team give up a season-high 109 points, a mortified Van Gundy talked of having "a bunch of hard decisions" to make.

He is clearly fed up with his team's defensive play as well as its slow starts in the first and second quarters. On Friday, with the Knicks down 23 at halftime, Van Gundy did something about it.
