That's the message Cavaliers
coach John Lucas has delivered to his star point guard, averaging 18.1 points and an NBA-high 10.9 assists. ``I told Andre, `Hoss, everybody's up for you, whether you have a bad back or not,' '' Lucas said. Miller had 13 points and 15 assists while playing with a strained back in Saturday's 98-93 loss at Memphis. But Miller was outplayed in the fourth quarter by Jason Williams. ``(Miller is) used to hiding and floating, but you when you lead the league in a category, even as bad as we are, people are talking about you,'' Lucas said. ``Andre's got to understand that he's got to show up every night.'' Lucas gave Miller yesterday off from practice so he could rest for tomorrow's rematch against the Grizzlies at Gund Arena. ``Show me you're a warrior in games,'' Lucas said. But Lucas had Miller make 750 shots because he's worried teams will play off Miller, who is not a strong outside shooter.
A PROBABLE PERSON -- Cavs guard Wesley Person, who sat out Saturday with a right elbow contusion, is probable for tomorrow. Person, who had surgery on the elbow after last season, was injured while diving for a loose ball Friday at San Antonio. Lucas said the ``human side'' of him believed it was OK that Person not play because ``when you have surgery like that, there's a fear factor, so he needed to see the doctors.'' But Lucas said ``on the coach side'' that Person should have played. ``If he could have moved his fingers, he should have played, and he could,'' Lucas said. Miller begged Lucas to let him play, but Lucas said Person didn't have the ``same determination.'' When Person, who sat out practice yesterday, does return, Lucas wants him to know that ``diving on the floor won't hurt him every time.''
TURKEY TIME -- Cavs players and coaches made enough donations for the team yesterday to distribute 2,500 turkeys to needy families. That's 1,100 more than were given last year. Spurred on by his convincing, captain Bimbo Coles said every player and coach gave between $500 and $1,000. ``It wasn't a problem,'' Coles said. ``Everybody realizes we're very thankful to have what he have and we should share it with people in need.''
NOTABLE -- Lucas is disappointed that the Cavs aren't aggressively taking the ball to the basket. Forward Jumaine Jones has played 300 minutes but is 0-of-2 from the line. Person is 8-of-8 from the line in 327 minutes, and several have been technical foul shots. . . . Upset with the loss to the Grizzlies and believing conditioning was a factor, Lucas ran his players a lot yesterday. ``I'm on them real hard, but I've got to calm my jets,'' Lucas conceded. . . . Chuck Person is confident he soon will be promoted from a volunteer to an assistant coach. ``I feel eventually it will get done,'' he said. . . . Lucas is calling forward Tyrone Hill, out with a back injury, the ``ghost.''
